Chinese Mandarin

普通话

Every Monday after school in room 52, all students welcome. Option to get a GCSE after a few year’s work. Teachers from the Nihao Mandarin language club, special price for JFS students.

Portuguese and Italian

Português and Italiano

Every Monday after school in rooms 54 and 53a for students with already some knowledge to native level speakers of the language. EDEXCEL GCSE and A level option. Very low price, co-financed by the Portuguese and Italian embassies.

Spanish, French and German

Español, Français and Deutsch

Mother tongue students (of the above or any other language if the family can support them in their studies and there is a GCSE available in EDEXCEL exam panels. If Edexcel does not have your language, we can consider other panels) need to speak with Mr. Ordóñez about their GCSE options.

Polish

Students are referred to their local Polish school. Please ask Mr. Ordóñez for more details.

Latin

Lingua latina

For year 9 and 10 groups only. There will be a free course in Latin at Trinity School, 4-5pm on Thursdays, commencing on Thursday 21^st of September.

Barcelona trip review by Joe Streek

We all had a fantastic week in Barcelona and enjoyed many fun activities such as; visiting the Nou Camp, visiting the Circuit de Catalunya and seeing the beautiful Sagrada Familia.

The picture below shows the view of Barceloneta Beach from the Teleferico cable cart.

My favourite moment in Barcelona was visiting the Circuit de Catalunya and being able to do a lap around it. It is a very impressive circuit and holds many great memories of F1 races. We saw where the drivers prepared before races and where media sat during the race.   

Another enjoyable moment was going up the Tibidabo Mountain and seeing the beautiful city from the highest point in Barcelona. We had great fun at the theme park that this Mountain holds and shared a moment of prayer in the magnificent Temple upon the mountain.

Overall it was a brilliant trip filled with fun, laughter and good memories. It was fantastic to be given the experience to learn and embrace the Spanish and Catalan culture and practice my language skills with local people.

Barcelona - día uno

Hoy llegamos a Barcelona. Hemos visitado la Sagrada Familia, un monumento fantástico diseñado por Gaudí. ¡Empezaron a construirlo hace más de cien años!

 Hemos tenido la oportunidad de bajar a la capilla de la Cripta.

Desde nuestro hotel, por la noche, se puede ver la torre Agbar iluminada.

Mi deporte favorito: el fútbol

¡Hola! Me llamo Berge, tengo catorce años y como a la mayoría de los chicos de catorce años, me encanta fútbol porque es guay.  

Mi deporte favorito es el fútbol porque es genial. Últimamente juego al fútbol dos veces a la semana en un club, pero también juego al fútbol en mi tiempo libre. Anteayer vi un partido de fútbol, Suwon Bluewings contra Manchester United.  Suwon ganó el partido. Cuando sea más vejo, me gustaría jugar para Suwon Bluewings. ¡Sería asombroso! En el futuro quiero visitar también Corea y me gustaría jugar al fútbol con Jong Tae-se. Me encanta Jong Tae-se porque es cuando era más joven, le escribía cartas y mandaba correos electrónicos, y él me respondió. En el futuro voy al ver jugar a Jong Tae-se ¡Será estupendo! Cuando estábamos en Corea conocimos a muchos futbolistas.

Normalmente juego en un equipo de fútbol y entrenamos en el polideportivo dos veces a la semana. No me gusta mucho el polideportivo porque es un poco cutre. La próxima semana, jugaré un partido de semifinales. ¡Ojalá ganemos! Solía jugar en un equipo de fútbol diferente peor que mi nuevo equipo. A mis amigos también les encantan nuestro equipo. Me parece que a la mayoría de la gente les gusta jugar al fútbol. 

Me encanta el fútbol aunque nunca juego a otro deporte. Por un lado es genial porque me puedo concentrar en el fútbol pero otro lado es fácil. ¿Importa? ¡No! Lo que más me gusta del fútbol es que es rápido pero lo que menos me gusta de deporte es repetitivo. Para disfrutar realmente del fútbol debes ser buenísimo en fútbol. ¡Adiós Amigos!

Las Ramblas

Las Ramblas in Barcelona is famous world wide. Las Ramblas is very important because it is a main tourist attraction. Las Ramblas is known for being a shopping area/street in Barcelona, therefore it has many people. The street is filled with shops and tourist sites such as the Christopher Columbus statue and links la plaza de Catalunya with Port Vell - Barcelona's harbour and beachfront. There are also many good restaurants such as the Hard Rock cafe, which I definitely suggest to visit whilst you are there, as well as some more traditional rustic tapas bars. However the one known problem with this big tourist area is it has many pick pockets, so make sure your valuables are secure. To be fair, nobody in our group got anything stolen.

Overall Las Ramblas is a beautiful and busy street. If you want to shop or just chill out and watch the world pass by, Las Ramblas can cater for all needs.

Our time at the beach in Barcelona was the time we most looked forward to.

Because we took the initiative and brought both a rugby and basketball, we were always entertained, with of course the sea looming behind us. (BUT BALL IS STILL LIFE)

The most memorable moment had to be the introduction of our volleyball-rugby hybrid game. Not only for the amazing skills I displayed, but also the positive attention we attracted.

If we were to remember anything from our trip, it would be our time at the beach.

Nuestra excursion a Barcelona

We all had a great time on our trip to Barcelona last week. As we made our way up the 512 meter Mount Tibabado, the view of the city was breath-taking, as was the experience on top of the mountain where there was an amazing theme park and the Temple Expiatori del Sagrat Cor where we spent a few moments reflecting before Mr Ordóñez and Mr Dean led us in a prayer.

The most enjoyable experience was visiting the monumental Camp Nou. It was amazing to see the success and history all the Barça teams hold, and how the community can be brought together. Another great experience we were thankful for was being able to walk down ´Las Ramblas´ the most famous strip in the whole of Spain, as well as visiting the Formula 1 race track 'Circuit de Catalunya', Port Vell, Sagrada Familia, The Picasso Museum and the Aquarium.

Overall it was great to be given the opportunity to experience Spanish and Catalan culture. Primarly, it was fantastic to be able to practice our Spanish speaking skills in preparation for next year!

La semana pasada tuvimos un tiempo estupendo en Barcelona. Cuando subíamos los 512 metros de la montaña la vista de la ciudad era impresionante, tanto como la experiencia en la cumbre donde había un espléndido parque temático y el Temple Expiatori del Sagrat Cor, donde pasamos unos momentos de recogimiento antes de que el profesor Dean y el profesor Ordóñez dirigieran una oracion.

La mejor experiencia fue visitar el monumental Camp Nou. Fue increíble ver los éxitos y la historia de todos los equipos del Barça, y la comunidad que agrupa. Otra gran experiencia de la que estamos agradecidos fue pasear por ´Las Ramblas´ una de las calles más famosas de España, similar a Oxford Street, asi como el circuito de Formula 1 'Circuit de Catalunya', el Port Vell, la Sagrada Familia, el museo Picasso y el Acuario.

En conclusión tuvimos una fantástica experiencia de la cultura española y catalana. ¡Fue fabuloso poder practicar nuestro Español hablado en preparación del año que viene!
